Through analog photography, the artist documents her experience of adapting to a new environment, imaging Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, where she has lived and worked for the past five years.
Exploring Miami by bus, bike, and on foot, Gabriela uncovers striking landscapes filled with Miami’s “copy-paste aesthetics” and enigmatic characters. Her work reflects her process of cultural assimilation and the navigation of new social codes. It reveals the visual poetry that emerges from the tension between intimacy and spectacle, marginality and luxury. Gabriela carves out a space where discomfort is embraced; a space where humor, harshness, and tenderness coexist.
